Ethiopian Lelisa dictates New Delhi Half marathon

In top form Lelisa Desisa was crowned New Delhi half marathon champion for the second time.  The seventh New Delhi Half Marathon event was full of world class athletes including current world youth cross country champion Kanyan Geofferay Kipsang.

It was a strong race from the start with twenty of the elite athletes taking the lead intact until the 15Km mark where for the first time two Kenyans came right behind her. The three rubbed shoulders until the last one kilometer. At that point Lelisa and Philadelphia marathon runner-up Geoffrey graced Nerhru stadium together until the final hundred meters where the ultimate champion demonstrated what a final kick expert he is. Lelisa’s finishing kick was too much for Geoffrey thus he became the latest champion in 59:30, the third best time of the course. Geoffrey Kipsang came home a second later with compatriot Mike Kigan in third place.

Defending champion Ethiopian Aselefetch managed to dictate most of the race. Lucy Kabu unleashed amazing final kicks to take the crown in 1:07:04 with Sharon coming second four seconds later. Pre race favorite for her third crown Aselefetch finished third followed by compatriot Belaynesh Olgera. Lelisa and Lucy each took 25,000 Dollars in cash prizes.
