ICASA 2011, Africa’s largest conference on HIV/AIDS, brought together 10,361 participants from 103 countries to attend over two hundred and twenty sessions. The Declaration of ICASA 2011 urged donor governments, organizations and philanthropists to continue invisting in global health through contributions to the Global Fund and to reverse the decision to cut Round 11 Disbursements.


The fund’s programs are estimated to save 100 thousand lives every month.  The opening ceremony welcomed former US President George W. Bush who was applauded and awarded for his initiative through the U.S. Department of State President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) that contributes billions to buy life saving drugs for people living in Africa who are poor. He was awarded for his contribution by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.


Religious leaders also attended the opening ceremony.
