Once again staging a fierce rivalry to claim the helm, the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association’s (ECCSA) 4th annual general assembly,on Saturday December 17, named Mulu Solomon of Almeta Impex Plc as successor of Zafu Eyesuswork Zafu.
During the voting Mulu secured 112 votes from a total of 187 votes while the former president and her contender Zafu got around 64 votes.

The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association (AACCSA) which held its 7th General Assembly at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center on Thursday nominated Mulu Solomon to run for the presidency of the ECCSA. Mulu told Capital that she accepted the offer even though it was a short notice.
Zafu Eyesuswork who was speculated by many to be a presidential contender for both the presidency of AACCSA and the national chamber later settled on running for the latter after he was elected by AACCSA as a delegate. He managed to compete with Mulu after he was nominated by the delegates as a capable contender.
According to the association’s regulations, board members of ECCSA can be reelected if they are nominated by the assembly, which consists of 187 delegates nominated from all the national chambers of commerce around the country.
Prior to the election, a two year performance and audit report of the National Chamber was presented and endorsed by the general assembly in the presence of the newly appointed Trade Minister Kebede Chane.
Zafu has been serving as president of the AACCSA for two consecutive terms starting from 2005 till 2009. Pursuant to Proclamation No. 341/2003, all Chambers of Commerce and Sectoral Associations are supposed to hold regular meetings once a year and conduct elections every two years.
In a related development, AACCSA elected Ayalew Zegeye as its president for the second time to serve the chamber and the business community for the coming two years on Thursday December 15. Abebabaw Mekonnen has also been reelected as the vice president of AACSA.
Recently the two chambers of commerce AACCSA and ECCSA have been disputing on the ownership of a seven-storey building located around Mexico Square.
