Abi Woldemeskel resigns

Director General of the Ethiopian Investment Agency (EIA), Abi Woldemeskel one of the longest serving government officials in Ethiopia, has resigned from his position. Reliable sources informed the Reporter that Abi tendered a letter of resignation to the Prime Minister’s Office on December 6 notifying his decision to leave his office for personal reason as of January 10. They indicated that Abi received a letter from the Prime Minister’s office accepting the resignation on December 15. Sources said that Abi had secured a job in an international organization adding that he would soon travel abroad. However, they declined to disclose the specific country to which he will travel to and the organization that Abi is planning to join. Abi served the agency for about 20 years in different managerial position. Abi began his career at the agency in the early 1990s when the agency itself was first established to spur investment activities in the country. He was deputy director of the agency while Tadesse Haile, current state minister of Industry, was the director general. (The Ethiopian Reporter)
