Tirunesh back in time for London Olympics

Back from injury after a two year absence, Beijing Olympic double gold medalist Trunesh Dibaba is back on track featuring a splendid performance to win the annual Spain- Madrid 10Km race. Little known Gebrehiwot Hagos takes the men’s crown after a photo finish confirmation against Eritrean Teklemariam Medhin.
Many are still heartbroken for Ethiopia’s poor performance at Dageu world championship. They came back almost back empty handed except for Ibrrahim Jeilan’s precious gold medal, appearing to breathe easy following Trunesh’d dramatic come back in the 47 edition of the annual San Salvatore Valecano’s 10Km road race. Trunesh’s serious contender was fellow Ethiopian Gelete Burka who displayed a determined showdown until the finishing line where the winner was decided with a photo finish. Trunesh and Gelete both clocked 31:30 but Trunesh took the crown thanks for the photo finish confirmation. Suzan Partridge finished third in 32:44. “I am happy that I can still win the race after a six month absence, I hope I am fully recovered and ready to defend my double title in the 5000 & 10000 meters” ever smiling Trunesh told reporters.
Also in a photo finish new comer Gebrehiwot Hagos took every one by surprise including himself. No one’s favorite before the race and who reached Spain just 24 hours before, Gebrehiwot appears in the picture half way through the distance along with another Ethiopian Bati and Eritrean Teklemariam Medhin. Two kilo metres from the finishing line Gebrehiwot & Teklemariam were shoulder to shoulder and stayed the same until crossing the line. The winner only to be decided with photo finish that is Gebrehiwot Hagos of Ethiopia. Home athletes Ayud Amdesan, Chema Martinez and Jelos Espana finished 3rd to 6th. “A win is a win whether it is with a photo or not. I am excited for the win” 17 year old Gebrehiwot remarked after the race.
