The power plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on December 17, 2011. Far Right is Debretsion Gebremichael Minister of Communication and Information Technology and Board Chairman of EEPCo.
During the event held at the Hilton Hotel on January 13, 2012; the 88th birthday of President Girma was also celebrated.
The president said during his speech that the more than eight thousand hectares irrigation project which is expected to supplement the nearby Finchaa sugar factory is going to be inaugurated soon.
The 97 MW Amerti-Neshi Multipurpose Hydroelectric Power dam project is the fourth such project the government inaugurated in just a little over two years after the inauguration of the 330 MW Tekeze Hydroelectric dam, the 420 MW Gilgel Gibe II Hydroelectric dam and the 460 MW Tana Beles Hydroelectric dam.
