Journey to Abay 2012 cycling big event in February

A big national cycling event takes place in February next month under the title “Journey to Nile 2012.” More than 40 strong cyclists are expected to line up for the historic event in which organizers are in sheer expectation to raise more than a million Birr from sponsors.
The Addis Ababa Sport Commission and Amhara Regional State Cycling Federations in coordination with high profile investors organized this historical event to herald the Ethiopian determination to build the “Grand Renaissance Dam” on River Nile. The race that covers a total of 563 km in four phases is unprecedented in the country’s cycling history. The capital Addis Ababa is the starting point while the famous sea side town Baherdar is the final destination. “Creating national awareness for the historical Great Renaissance Dam” is the under lined motto for the race that takes place from 22-27 February 2012. The routes to be covered in four days are, from Addis Ababa to Gohatsion, Gohatsion to Debre Markos, Debremarkos to Enjibara then from Enjibara to Baherdar. Ato Nebiyu Samuel of Zolina Construction, is the main sponsor of this great event.
Addis Ababa Cycling Federation is in high spirit to make the sport back in to its former glory days.
