Environmental protection MoU signed

The Eminence Social Entrepreneurs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Addis Ababa Beautification, Park and Cemetery Administration Agency (AACBPCAA) signed on February 6 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to stage seedling exhibition from June 5- July 5, 2012 at the Meskel Square. After signing the agreement, Eminence Company CEO Tesfaye Alemu said that the exhibition will bring together all seedling companies and to promote their products as well as facilitate discussion forums on environmental protection and desertification. “The exhibition takes place every year for one month in order to keep the sustainability of environment protection issues and desertification, he added. AACBPCAA Director General Tsegaye Gebre-Medhin on his part said that as public mobilization and awareness is an important tool in the fight against environment degradation and desertification and expressed his agency’s readiness to work with the Eminence Social Entrepreneurs.  Studies indicate that more than 40 percent of land in Ethiopia was covered by forest before a century, however, it’ now reduced to only five percent. In order to tackle the problem of environmental pollution and desertification, some research works recommended that the government and the other stakeholders should work aggressively in afforestation efforts.
