Spreading football passion to Ethiopia

AON, the primary sponsor of Manchester United,

came to Addis as part of a tour to help communities and get people engaged in Ethiopian Football. Last Wednesday, February 15, representatives from Sport Commissions for youth and adults in Ethiopia and the country’s football federation met with  the AON team at the Sheraton Addis as part of a trip they are taking from South Africa to Egypt “passing on” volunteering while they pass on their passion for Football.
The AON team travels around the world carrying an autographed Manchester United ball signed by Man United coach Sir Alexander Fergusson and some of the team’s players.
AON is an insurance and risk management company which also provides broker and consulting services.
The team reaches out and volunteers while they travel.” AON is committed to the community, we don’t just tour having fun, we also do a lot of neighborhood based projects along the way,” said Sandra Hutenison, Executive Director of AON South Africa. After the team is done with their worldwide tour, the soccer balls will be auctioned off to a charity to mark the end of AON’s 25th anniversary celebration.
Education is their primary focus
Before we visit a country we conduct research on what the people need and we found that most of the time education was what they wanted,” Sandra stated.
The AON team said that they were very proud of the Ethiopian Women’s football team Lucy and they will be providing two of the women from the team a chance to go to Kenya and South Africa. The girls’ team Lucy was very excited to touch the soccer ball signed by their heroes. AON also stated that they will discuss a possible sponsorship for the women’s football team but nothing is yet set in stone.
The corporation has 59,000 employees working in 120 countries worldwide.
Man United has over 93 million fans around the world.
