Haile Gebreselassie in “Yes I can” second campaign

Great Haile appears in the “Yes I Can” second campaign following his unsuccessful effort to fulfil the Olympic marathon minimum time set by the International Olympic committee. The living legend clock 2:08:12 in Tokyo marathon, a far cry from the required national minimum time. There are currently more than five national marathoners who have 2 hours and 06 minutes and below.
Less than five months into the 2012 London Olympics Haile is yet in the lookout for an Olympic minimum time. In his latest effort to fulfil the requirement in Tokyo Marathon, the former world athlete of the year, Haile struggled to finish 4th clocking 2:08:12 that is more than three minutes late than the national minimum time. Having seven marathon athletes who clocked less than 2:05 in preparation to London including 21 year old Ayele Abshero who won Dubai marathon in astonishing performance, Haile needs a “Yes I Can” big effort to join the national elites. In his interview with reporters after his 4th place finish Haile remarked that London is five months away and according to the latest count there are seven international marathon events in which he can achieve a better time to fulfil the requirement. “One need both physical and mental strength for such undertaking and currently I am in such situation thus I’m sure will do my best in the remaining times,” said Haile, the great inspiration of Ethiopian athletics.
