An exhibition depicting the works of Honorary Dr Abebech Gobena over the past 32 years
was opened last Thursday at the National Museum. The exhibition which was entitled the “Mother of Thousands” was opened in relation to the March 8 celebration which was celebrated for the 101th time around the world and for 36th time in Ethiopia. A documentary film showcasing the work of the humanitarian woman and a statue symbolizing her beginning was officially unveiled during the event. In recognition of her long years of humanitarian service, Jimma University has awarded her Honorary Doctorates. Abebech who began her humanitarian work in 1980 with two drought victims while on a pilgrimage to Gishen Mariam, a monastery in Wollo, has now managed to shelter more than 14,000 orphans. The humanitarian organization founded and managed by her, Abebech Gobena Yehetsanat Enkebikabena Limat Mahiber, has created 237 permanent job opportunities.
