Dedebit FC dominates women’s soccer tournament

Though unclear and controversial in the naming, Dedebit won the one round soccer tournament among five Ethiopian premier league sides. Birtukan Gebrekristos crowned best player and top scorer of the much talked about event that takes place at Addis Ababa stadium.
Four wins including the 8-1 thrashing of Ethiopian Coffee, Dedebit that signed many of the players left in the cold by Ethiopian Coffee two seasons back ended the surprise package of the tournament conceding few goals. Spearheaded by national team top scorer Birtukan G/Kristos Dedebit defeated Defense Force 2-1 to be crowned undisputed champion collecting 12 points from four matches. Birtukan G/Kristos who made two hat tricks in a single match at the 8-1 thrashing of Coffee, scored twice during the tournament’s final match to take her goal tally to nine thus taking home both top scorer and best player awards. Dedebit’s  goal keeper Liya Sheberu  also wins the tournament’s best goal keeper conceding only three goals. Crusinh the only regional side to take part in the tournament Diredawa Town to a 9-2 score line, pretournament title favorite Commercial Banks finished runner up with seven points. Steering Dedebit to a moral boosting championship title head coach Asrat Abate took best coach’s award and the visitors Diredawa took home the fair play trophy. Though the naming is controversial, EFF president Sahlu Gebrewold remarked that it is a must for every premier league side to have a women’s side next season.
