Urban Development Ministry builds new headquarters

The Ministry of Construction and Urban Development (MoCUD) now located in the heart of Addis Ababa around National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) is planning to make three new buildings that are going to be used as headquarter offices.
According to the information obtained from the ministry, the project includes two six-storey buildings and one ten-storey building.
Lack of sufficient offices spaces are the major reason for the ministry’s plan to construct more buildings, according to the public relations officer at the ministry.
Currently the project is in the bidding process and the construction is expected to commence before the end of the current budget year, i.e. July.
The total investment cost for the three buildings has not yet been disclosed since it is in the bidding process.
Lack of sufficient offices in the city has forced most of the federal agencies to lease buildings from private real estate developers. Government organizations are one of the major building renters in Addis Ababa, which means they have to pay a significant amount for rent.
Recently the Ministry of Health constructed a new building in its compound also located near the NBE. The Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority and the Ministry of Agriculture have also built their owned office blocks around Megenagna and have both moved to their new location.
