Olympic double gold medalist Kenenisa Bekele is preparing for a head to head clash against World Champion, Mo Farah. Twenty world renowned long distance athletes are in the lineup for the 5,000 meter 2012 Samsung Diamond League circuit.
Not yet booked a place in 2012 London Olympic, Kenenisa who set the fastest time of the season in Dublin a few weeks back is now the hottest property of Diamond League organizers for the 5,000 meter show down taking place in Eugene-Oregon on 2 June 2012. At the season’s Diamond League fourth circuit at Eugene, Kenenisa who performed a hard to believe come back in Dublin after so long an absence from injury, and the World and European Champion, Mo Farah are taking the spot light. “It is big success having the two world giants in the highly anticipated race,” event organizers told reporters while announcing the twenty strong fields to grace Eugene. The Ethiopian contingent include: 22 year old Yenew Alamerew, Tariku Bekele, Abera Kuma, and Tesfaye Cheru. While the Kenyans are represented by seven superb athletes, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Ken Edwin Soi, Isaiah Koech, Longosiwa, Cheseri and the event’s youngest leg, at 17 years old, Albert Kop. In addition to Ethiopians and Kenyans there are also strong adversaries from USA, Great Britain and Australia. “Kenenisa versus Mo showdown is among the highlight of star studded field. It is sure to be an event to be remembered for long time,” organizers remarked.
