2nd Addis Ababa City Circuit brings new champions

The season’s second Addis Ababa City circuit took place in the capital bringing together a record 27 race cars. The Ferari brothers dominated the big show on Sunday.

Although many of the race cars hardly finished the races due to poor technical capability, the season’s City Circuit 2nd edition brought some new faces onto the podium and some fascinating showdowns among the champions. Twenty seven race cars revved into four categories, the guest of honor to the Sunday showdown at the famous Meskel Square was his Excellency House Speaker, Abadula Gemeda.

In the first category below 1000 CC, Luca Olivero in his Fiat 600 race car snatched the crown out of the mouth of his strong contender Cardini Carlo who was followed by die hard Tibebu Cherenet. The Olivero versus Carlo showdown both in Fiat 600 was so entertaining, that the public gave a standing ovation at every lap. In the 1000-1300 CC Olindo Antonio stood first flashing his Toyota Corolla while Biruk Zenebe finished second with the one and only women racer Julia Pizzani finishing third. “Though lots of technical problems with the race cars, the sport could have grown better if number of fans increases” Julia remarked after the trophy handover.

The breath taking title contention between former champion Dawit Teshome and Stefano Ferari ended with Ferari taking the crown with his Toyota Corolla while fan’s favorite and famous for his bold maneuvers Dawit Teshome settled for second spot. Because few of the racers quit in mid race for technical failure, no third car grabbed the third place award.
