Host University Rift Valley took the overall championship title of the third Ethiopian private universities’ annual sports festival. Soloda Health and Technique College took home the much appreciated Fair Play trophy.
The two week annual sport festival, held in Adama Town, brings together 14 Ethiopian private colleges represented by 387 participants in seven disciplines. Rift Valley University is basking in appreciation from participants as well from the town dwellers.
In the festivals’ biggest event Football, Rift Valley College denied Southern University from claiming its third title in a row after a 2-0 victory. Though the cup final was tense and players were excited, Rift Valley with one man down after a red card for a serious foul, managed to score two goals in the final minutes to win the title for the first time. In addition to the football title Rift Valley collected five trophies in Table Tennis in both genders, women’s volleyball and Men’s athletics. Host to the fourth edition next year, Unity University won the trophy in Chess, while Sidama College and Central University College each traveled home with asingle trophy in men’s Volleyball and women’s athletics respectively. Central College won a trophy for being the most colorful team. Best football player and top scorer awards went to Yemane Asmelash and the hero with then goals, Seleshi Zerihun respectively. According to Ethiopian private university college’s sport association president and Central University owner Abnet Girmay, the event was very colorful, disciplined and went on without a hitch.
