Ethiopian premier league turns a two horse’s race

A hard earned 2-1 home victory over Harar Brewery, a game in hand Saint George stays at the premier league driving seat one point clear of second place Dedebit, while Electric’s two defeats in the last three matches appear out of gas for title contention. Defense Force and Diredawa Town exchange places after a home win to the army side.
The federation’s sudden decision to suspend the league fixtures frustrated many sides especially those three on top of the league contending for the title and at bottom three sides battling to survive from frustration. Missing the tempo is sure to be a disadvantage to Air Force that lost all games since head coach Negussie Desta’s appointment and currently at rock bottom with just nine points. Either, one game in hand Defense Force or Diredawa Town will go down to the national league next season. Defense’s remaining matches are against Dedebit, Harar, Mugher, and Adama Town and Saint George out of which only one against Mugher is away, while Diredawa is to face.  Awasa Town and Dedebit for away matches with the two matches against Harar and Air Force will be at home.
With Electric losing 1-0, the title race appears between two horses, Dedebit and Saint George. Back from injury Getaneh Kebede gave Dedebit the winning goal in just one minute, while Saint George struggled to win 2-1 over visitors Harar Brewery that featured their recent weeks’ best performance dominating the mid field for most of the ninety minutes. Adane opened the score line seconds before half time, then Harar equalized in the first half but Mesfin’s winning goal gave the leaders all three points to stay on course. Saint George is the hot favorite for the title tops the table with 49 points, while Dedebit ranks second with 48 followed by Electric at third with seven points behind the leaders. Mugher Cement is fourth with 33 points; Awassa comes in at fourth with 32 points, while Sidama Coffee sixth with 28 points and a point above seventh place Ethiopian Coffee that lost 2-1 away to Sidama Coffee. Adane Girma is back on top to share the leading scorers table with Medhane Tadesse each with 15 goals.
