Haile in Hengelo today in search of Olympic minimum

Ethiopian long distance legend, including world all time greatest athlete Haile G/Selassie, faces his toughest ever challenge in Hengelo-Netherlands in quest of Olympic minima. The top three finishers will have an automatic booking to London.
Haile Gebreselassie’s astonishing victory at Great Manchester 10 KM road race, spear heading an Ethiopian medal sweeping squad, means the miracle performer has every chance of booking a place for his fifth Olympic at the age of thirty-nine. According to world marathon record holder Macau, axed from Kenyan marathon team bound to London later told reporters that he was surprised at Haile’s blistering pace after 4th KM. “I saw his pace and forgot my intention to catch up with him,” Macau who finished 5th in Manchester remarked after the race. Haile lead most of the distance to cross the line in 27:39 followed by compatriot and former London marathon champion Tsegaye Kebede in 27:56 with fellow Ayele Abshero third with same time but for a photo finish. Ethiopian marathon squad number one selectee Ayele Abshero’s performance also called for a celebration for it means he can finish the 42km in a sprint finish. For Haile, who won 17 road races out of 19, his 5th Manchester victory was taken as a lucky strike among the city dwellers who wish him all the best and want to see him at London Olympic in two months time. Haile popularly known as MR Hengelo for his repeated victory is now the hot favorite to win the event for one more historical notch to the famous town. Haile told reporters he will do everything possible to win Hengelo and a record fifth Olympic appearance, but he thinks it might be difficult to win a medal at London. Seleshi Sehen, Emana Mergia, and Tariku Bekele are also in Hengelo for the big showdown, deciding their fate in London.
