Two young Ethiopian artists nabbed honors at the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts “Lidice 2012” in the Czech Republic. Sixteen year old Araya Mulugeta received a medal and seven year old Anna Tarkekgn received honorable mention.
They accomplished this feat by being one of 1,434 young artists from 67 countries who received prizes out of the 26,064 entries. Sixty people from Ethiopia participated in the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice; established in 1967 to commemorate young victims from the Czech village of Lidice, murdered by German Nazis, and all other childhood victims of war. In 1973 the exhibition spread out from the Czech Republic across the globe and has become well known by students and educators throughout the world.
