Lucy for a decisive home encounter against Tanzania

Ethiopian national women side Lucy entertains visitors from Tanzania today for 2012 African Women’s championship qualifier first leg home match. The return leg takes place in Darussalam in two weeks time, then the aggregate winner to book a flight to London Olympic.
Demolishing Egypt in a 6-4 aggregate victory with astonishing 4-0 return leg home win, Lucy is ready for today’s big showdown against a strong side Tanzania, the team that defeated Ethiopia 3-1 in their last meeting here in Addis Ababa. Thrashing Egypt, a side that came from North African low land is one thing but as for Tanzania almost from same altitude and with previous win in front of home crowed, might turn out a heavy task. However, in a press conference held at Ethiopia Hotel on Monday “Lucy” vowed to revenge the previous heavy loss and try everything possible to finish business at the first leg home encounter. In the press conference, head coach Abraham T/Haimanot praised his squad’s spirit and commitment and his appreciation to the federation in helping the team all the way through preparation period. “I believe it is payback time to the visitors and the players (are) in full readiness to make sure they are in the cup final,” Abraham said. The players need strong support from every angle. Some coming far from home and many hardly from well to do families. Yet their commitment and passion for the sport is amazing, so please give them due consideration,” Abraham added. Lucy’s skipper, Bezuhan Endale announced to the conference “that a win and the journey to Equatorial Guinea is imminent by all means.” Though Abraham did not mention the exact line up for today’s decisive match, it appears the usual 4-4-3 with Birtukan G/Kirstos leading the strike force that carry the burden of steering the side to a historic African Women’s championship cup final will be the call. The return leg takes place on 17 June 2012.
