Fantu Magisso wins Rome Diamond League spectacular

Middle distance athletics rising star from Southern Ethiopia, Hosanna, Fantu Magisso out shines women’s 800 meter world record holder Kenyan Pamelo Jelimo. Former world women athlete of the year Meseret Defar once again finishes second behind world champion Vivian Cheriot. Abeba Argawi wins the1500 meter showdown with Genzebe finishing third.
The tall and graceful Fantu Magisso is fast rising to become athletics house hold name following her astonishing victory in Diamond League athletics meeting in Rome on Thursday. Although world champion Jelimo was pre race hot favorite, African champion Fantu clocked new course record 1:57:56 to win the day with Jelimo coming second in 1:58:33. Fantu and Jelimo are leading the Diamond race in the distance each collecting six points from two events.
Abeba Argawi wins the 1500 meter distance taking in surprise many of the contenders including Doha winner compatriot Genzebe Dibaba. Abeba clocked the season’s fastest, the course new and the Diamond League best ever time in 3:56:54 followed by Kenyan Helen Ohari. Genzebe settles for third spot crossing the line third. Abeba leads the table with 6 points while Genzebe second with five points. The much anticipated showdown between Meseret Defar and Vivian Cheriot ended according to the expectation with the Kenyan once again the winner but this time in .03 micro seconds. Vivian crossed the line in 14:35:62 with Meseret 14:35:65.Vivian leads the race with eight points while Meseret stays second with four points.
