Second Coca Cola road race registration opens

Great Ethiopian Run opened registration for the second Coca-Cola road race series which will be held on Sunday June 17th.  It is the first of a series of three races. Professional athletes will compete  alongside recreational runners, over the 7Km distance starting and finishing at Diaspora square, Megenagna. The series continues on Sunday September 16th and Sunday October 14th.
The race series aims to encourage people to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. They are spaced so as to allow improvement in form, and are held over the same 7 Km course.  Organizers hope race participants will aspire to beat their previous time. Since the series ends in October, it will help participants to prepare for the 10Km International race taking place a month later in November.
Last year’s races were the first mass participation events to use timing chip technology, in Ethiopia.  The series also helped to launch the international career of Mewesenet Geremew, who was the overall male winner of the series.
A total prize of 220,000 birr will be awarded over the series, and the overall male and female race winners, will scoop up a 50,000 birr prize.  Each mass participant will receive a finisher’s medal during the third and final race. Participants taking part in all three races will be entered into a raffle draw.
Around 100 teams from organizations have registered for the 9th edition of the Ring Road Relay which is taking place over a 6Km course on the road from the new Meshualekia roundabout to Gotera overpass. That race happens today, Sunday June 3 and aims to promote road safety and team spirit.
