The African Union Commission and the AUC and the Kenyan Government signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) enabling the former contribution to troops and resources to AU mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the AU announced. According to AU press release the agreement governs Kenya’s contribution of troops and resources to AMISOM. Peace and security commissioner Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra and Kenyan Defense State minister Mohammed Yusuf Haji signed the MoU. Commissioner Lamamra also outlined progress so far made in the implementation of the new strategic concept of AMISOM operations and UN Security Council resolution of February 22, 2012. He said the stabilization of Somalia was critical to the collective security of the sub-region and the rest of the continent as well as international peace and security.
