Coca-Cola as part of its “Active Health Living” campaign, in partnership with the Great Ethiopian Run, is celebrating its one year since it introduced its timing chip used in mass participation running events. The computerized result management system lets participants get their finishing time and position in the race via text message.
The 2012 Coca-Cola Road Races are planned for June 17th, September 16th and October 14th. Like last year, this year’s race will also be 7Km; starting and finishing at Megnenagna, Diaspora Square. To improve on last year, the race is also expected to have more entertainment and music. Participants who take part in all three races will be given medals and awards during the series finale.
“We really hope that people will participate in all three races, we want people to make running part of their lives for a healthy life style,” said Ermiays Ayele, Manager of Great Ethiopian at a press conference held on Tuesday June 12th 2012 at Intercontinental Hotel.
Participants will receive three different colored wrist bands, one for each race. “Those who participate in the races will need to bring the wrist bands to be able to run in all the races, it will also make it easier to find out how many people actually run all three races,” Ermiays added.
The Coca-Cola Race Series has the biggest cash prize award with over 220,000 birr up for grabs. The female and male runners with the fastest overall time will receive a cash prize of 50,000 birr while second and third place finishers will receive 25,000 and 12,000 birr respectively. There will also be a raffle where lucky winners will get prizes like a laptop, TV and bicycle.
