Insurance FC back to Ethiopian premier league

Insurance FC is back in the Ethiopian premier league’s higher tier after two seasons in the woods. Pre-tournament hot favorite to promotion Lidetta Nyala finish third while Dashen Brewery’s dream of joining the elites was aborted in mid campaign.
The thirteen sides in two group qualification climaxed on Wednesday with Insurance not only promoted to the premier league but also claimed national league title after a penalty shootout victory over Ethiopian Water Works.
Asrat Haile best known as “Goradew” lead Insurance out of the woods wining all five matches in the group qualification campaign, then an emphatic 1-0 victory over city rival and strong side Ledetta Nyala to secure a place in the final cup game against national league.
The season surprise package was the loss of Ethiopian Water Works FC, the side that reached the cup final with a 2-1 controversial win over Sebetta Town. In the final cup showdown on Wednesday, Insurance took the lead in the first half with a goal from Efrem Alemneh, but gave up a silly goal to Water Works as second half equalizer. The regular time score of 1-1 was followed 22 penalty shoot out. Insurance takes away the coveted national league trophy and the gold medal while runner-up Water Works settled for silver.
Sebeta Town not only missed the chance to return to the top league but also was left bare handed after the 1-0 play-off defeat to Lidetta Nyala. Insurance head coach Asrat Haile takes best coach of the league season, while Samuel Terefe was crowned best player of the championship. Berhan Fishaye of Water Works won best goalie of the national league.
