Road building, maintenance underway


The construction and renovation of 164-kms roads was carried out in Illubbabora Zone of Oromiya State at a cost of over 85 million birr, the zonal roads authority said.
Authority Head Gedefu Moti said that the roads interlink 164 rural localities with main roads.
Gedefu said 134-kms of the stated roads is newly constructed while the remaining maintained.
According to Gedefu, the government earmarked 80 million birr of the stated budget while 68,000 farmers in the localities contributed the balance for construction and maintenance of the roads.
The zone has planned to construct and repair over 679-kms of rural roads in the new budget year.
Ethiopia is implementing Universal Rural Road Access Programme (URAP), designed to construct roads interconnecting all rural localities.
