Zamalek against TP Mazembe showdown today


The 2012 African champions’ league decisive matches takes place today with the major showdown between the continent’s giants TP Mazembe and Zamalek. CAF goes to a historical ruling in favor of Mazembe’s request of match officials’ change.
With eight sides in two groups, the African champions’ league fixture reaches to the second round with Esperance and Al-Ahly on top of their respective groups. Three wins out of three Tunis champion Esperance leads group “A” with nine points while South Africa’s Sunshine Stars and Etoille de Sahel are second  and third each with four points but a one goal difference. Also Chief is bottom of the table with three defeats out of three. The five time African champion Al-Ahly is leading group “B” with nine points while two time champion and world club champion cup finalist TP Mazembe and Berekum Chelsea of Ghana  are second and third each collecting four points. Former champion Zamalek sits bottom of the group with no points. TP Mazembe’s away clash in Cairo today against home side Zamalek is so decisive the visitors’ requested for the change of the officials for the Tunis match. In a surprise yet historic move, CAF fully accepted the request to appoint three match officials all from Mauritius. In quest of its third African title Mazemebe travels to Cairo today then a decisive home match against group leader Al-Ahly after two weeks.  Berekum Chelsea is waiting at home to avenge Al-Ahly for the 4-1 first leg victory and the visitors without star striker Brazilian Fabio due to a calf injury.
