Fincha Sugar Factory finalizes its expansion project


Addis Ababa September 17/2012 Fincha Sugar Factory finalized construction of expansion project that would help boost more than double its sugar production at a cost of 4.5 billion Birr. Factory Manager, Girma Wayu told ENA that the project would help increase sugar production to 2.7 million quintals from 1.1 million quintals a year. He said sugarcane plantation has currently reached 16,000 hectares from 6,700 hectares in the previous. According to him, the project has envisaged to undertake development of 5,000 hectares of additional sugar cane. Up on going fully operation in the coming October, the manager said, the project could create 15,000 jobs. Girma said his factory would realize the Growth and Transformation Plan set in the sugar sector ahead of time. He said the expansion would also enhance the production of ethanol to 20 million liters per annum from eight million liters at present. A contracting OIA INDIA PVT. LTD Company manager, VK Jain on his part said the factory employs world class technology and enabled to transfer sugar technology from India. The cost of the expansion project launched three years ago, was covered by loan granted from Exim Bank of India. Found in Eastern Wollega Zone of Oromia State 350 km away from Addis Ababa, the factory was established in 1992EC.
