One of the nation’s oldest hotels will soon be seeing stars as it completes a new facelift.
The Grand Yordanos Hotel Plc earned five stars as it underwent a new expansion erected at a cost of 200 million birr at Jomo Kenyatta Street around ECA. It has 110 high quality bedrooms and new facilities that now bring it into the five star category.

Tamene Woldeyess, owner and general manager of the hotel, told Capital they how have ten VIP (presidential) and 14 large suites and seven medium suites out of a total of 110 rooms.
“Our facility also has four family rooms,” the owner added.
The ten storey building that took five years to construct also has a swimming pool, gym, beauty salon and four different restaurants. According to Tamene, the hotel also includes four halls with the capacity to hold 1,000 people  and smaller meeting rooms for around 20.
Yordanos Hotel established two decades ago, is one of the oldest and largest hotels. When it was first built it had three stories and cost only 15 million birr.
According to the owner both hotels rest on 2,000sqm. But he said that they need more land from the city administration.
“We hope to have even more facilities and have and the city land administration for more plots close to the hotel,” Tamene explained.
Currently, the hotel industry in the country is booming. Most of the investors who have been in the industry including new foreign and local investors have been involved in the establishment of high quality hotels mainly in Addis Ababa. The city’s status as the seat of African Union Commission (AUC) and Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) make it very desirable.   Over the past few years Addis Ababa has become one of the major conference centers on the continent. For this reason the government has given significant support to investors in the hospitality industry.
