ERA set to begin construction of Hawassa-Hageremariam asphalt road

Preparations are underway to begin the construction of the Hawassa-Hageremariam asphalt road, according to the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA).
The 198-km Hawassa-Hageremariam road, to be built at a cost of 3 billion Birr, is part of the Trans-African Highway corridor that links Kenya’s Mombassa with Addis Ababa.
“The construction of the road would have a significant contribution towards creating economic ties between Ethiopia and Kenya,” said Samson Wondimu, ERA’s Communication Directorate Director.
The construction of the road would also help increase the volume of trade between Ethiopia and Kenya by improving cross-border trade, the director said.
The African Development Bank (ADB) is the agency that is financing the project, it was noted.
