The 22nd National Education and Training Conference, which is expected to discuss the performance report of the education and training sector and confer on priority issues, opened in Addis Ababa on Monday. Addressing the two-day conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, Demeke Mekonen said various activities have been undertaken over the past 21 years to build a democratic community in the Country. He said, as education is the key to development, the Government is focusing on various activities that will make education accessible to all citizens. Over 22 million schoolage children are enrolling in schools, he asserted. According to him, ensuring quality of education has got priority. Addis Ababa City Deputy Mayor, Abate Sitotaw, also stated that encouraging results have been registered in primary education accessibility, ensuring quality of education and expansion of educational facilities as well as women’s education and enrollment.
