Addis Ababa City Cup final featuring Coffee Vs Banks

Ethiopian Coffee plays Commercial Banks in the 7th City Cup final showdown today at Addis Ababa stadium. Defense Force faces  defending  Cup champions Saint George for a third place play-off.
Last season’s Coffee head coach Wubetu Abate faces his old club under new boss Tsegaye Kidanemariam, who had been with Harar Brewery for the last six seasons. Coffee,  who were the least  favorite to reach  the big showdown today, bulldozed its way into the cup final with flying colors. A 2-1 group opening win over Electric followed by a 2-0 victory over Banks, then a 1-1 draw with Dedebit to finish top of the group with seven points. A penalty shootout semi-final victory over city rival Saint George privileged Ethiopian Coffee to the big cup final clash. On the semi final clash, the saints took a 36th minute lead with a goal  coming from a new comer from Defense Force, Oumed Oukri. Late in the second half Tafesse Tesfaye scored the equalizer from penalty spot after his younger brother Teklu Tesfaye fouled in the penalty. Abebaw Butako and Alula Girma both back from the heroic Ethiopian national team missed the spot kicks thus denied a cup final place for the historic125th Addis Ababa Anniversary City Cup. On the other hand Commercial Banks zigzagged through the campaign finishing second  during the group stage, with four points out a 3-1 win over Electric and a draw with Dedebit.  Bank’s biggest success   came  against Defense Force coming from a 3-1 dawn to book a cup final place with a 4-3 victory. The historic cup final today brings two of the young up and coming head coaches, both in their very first season, with their respective teams. Defense Force plays Saint George for a third place play-off.
