Tsegu Birhane Trading Plc. is planning to open an assembly plant for heavy duty trucks in the country.
Tsegu Birhane, General Manager, said that his company will assemble SAIC-IVECO Hongyau dump trucks in the near future and is the sole agent for its distribution in Ethiopia.
The local company and Chongoing Asia-China Automobile Sales Co Ltd, one of the three Chinese companies that has exclusive rights to sell the Genlyon-IVECO products, sealed the deal on Sunday October 14, at the Sheraton Addis.
The local company which supplies various construction-related machinery and other heavy trucks to its customers, has plans to sell up to 2000 Genlyon-IVECO dump trucks within a year. The manufacturer of Genlyon-IVECO product is SAIC-IVECO, one of the biggest truck manufacturers in China. The company is also a supplier of military vehicles in the Far East. Tsegu informed Capital that the Chinese company selected his company from a group of six shortlisted companies, to control sales in Ethiopia.
The trading plc has organised a standard after-sales service (maintenance), warehouse and showroom around Gofa Mebrathail and Kaliti areas.
Dump trucks with the Italian IVECO’s technology have in the past been imported into the country only by individuals. According to the general manager, the main reason for the the demand for the Genlyon-IVECO product in the country is due to the easy availability of spare parts, compared to other trucks imported from China.
In addition, the company also has plans to expand its accessibility in regional towns by having sales agents and maintenance services that have the capacity to handle the business.
“We will also offer regular training by Chinese professionals to auto mechanics based in these regions,” he added.
