The U-17 Ethiopian National Youth Team top striker Tadios Tesema, came from Bahir Dar to join the national team. He has been a member of the Deg-Arege youth training project in Bahir Dar for the last 8 years. A street boy who joined the youth training program for fun got an opportunity to be selected for the U-17 National Youth Team and played as a top striker in the first leg of the U-17 African championship qualifier against the Tunisian side held in Addis last week.
Tadios’ parents died while he was young. That situation forced him to go out to the streets for subsistence. Tadios has regularly been receiving left over food from the Bahir Dar University meal section.
The U-17 national youth team head Coach Yared Tolera said that he has a special talent in free kick. “Tadios was selected by the Ethiopian Football Federation Technique Committee. I saw him in the training session. He was very tactical and active in his play and easily synchronized with other players. Above all, he is disciplined,” Yared said. He added that considering the usual lifestyle of street boys many people thought that his behavior would be unruly but on the contrary he is one of the most disciplined players in the squad.
So far Tadios didn’t join a club. The coach Yared is certain that Tadios will shortly be recruited be one of the clubs.
Owner and General Manager of Tekelebirhan Ambaye Construction PlC, Teklebirhan Ambaye promised to take care of this young boy from now on. “He is my son hereafter” Teklebirhan said while giving out incentive for the youth team that beat Tunisia 3-0 on Tuesday October 16.
