Coffee wins Addis Ababa’s 125th Anniversary City Cup

Ethiopian Coffee claims  Addis Ababa city’s125th  Anniversary  Cup title after a penalty shootout victory over Commercial Banks. Defending champion Saint George settled  for third spot.
This must be a moral boosting start for Ethiopian Coffee’s new boss, Tsegaye Kidanemariam, winning a historical  trophy just three months after taking over the hot seat. Introducing  young talent, especially in  midfield,  Tsegaye managed to sail through the group and semi-final stage in good form, his side displaying good football while   winning matches at the same time. On the other hand, Coffee’s former head coach, Wubetu Abate, also led his side to the cup final, months after he joined Commercial Banks. Wubetu met his former side at the group stage to lose 2-0,  yet at the cup final, he managed to take the lead through striker Abiy Moges, only to be cancelled out by Tafesse Tesfaye’s second half equalizer. Wubetu’s side, famous for second half comebacks against both Electric (coming back from a goal down to a 3-1 win) and Defense Force (4-3 win from two goals down), lost the trophy after a penalty shootout. Banks showed that it is going to be one of the strong title contenders in the league this season. In the third place play off match saint George won over old rival Defense Force.
