Beseka detour road construction in progress

Construction of Beseka detour road is well in progress at a cost of 142 million birr, the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) said. About 70 percent of the construction has been finalized. The Authority’s Alemgena district Maintenance Manager, Adane Andarge, told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) that the road is part of the Ethio-Djibouti corridor which is being upgraded to asphalt-concrete level. According to him, the road construction’s main purpose is to ease traffic congestion and facilitates the import and export of goods. The manager said the project includes the construction of a supportive land fill which will be used to protect the ecology of Beseka. The road, which is expected to be completed in January, is partially rendering service to 20,000 heavy-duty trucks each day.
