The 16th Ethiopian premier league season kicks-off in two-round fixtures, featuring 14 sides. The Eight sides from the capital Addis Ababa are Saint George, Defence Force, Electric, Coffee, Commercial Banks, Insurance, Dedebit and Water Sport.  Mugher Cement & Adama Town from Oromia, Hawassa Town, Sidama Coffee and Arba minch Town from the Southern Region and Harar Brewery from Harar complete the list. These are the major actors in this year’s  league season with the ten times champion  Saint George, led by its head coach, once again clear favourites to win the 2013 title. Two of the fourteen head coaches are foreigners: one is from Bulgaria, Jordan Stoykov, in his third season with Electric and the other is newly-appointed saint George head coach, Mike Krugger. Seven sides, including newly promoted Insurance, retained their head coaches. These are the Defence Force (Gebre medhin Haile), Insurance (Asrat Haile), Electric (Stoykov), Hawassa Town (Zelalem Shiferaw), Mugher Cement (Girma), Dedebit (Hailemichael tesfaye, known as kokebe) and the Arba minch Town teams are the sides  sticking to their former head coaches. Former Trans Ethiopia and Harar Brewery head coach, Tsegaye Kidanemariam, takes over Ethiopian Coffee to lead them to the 7th City Cup title. With Six seasons  at Harar Brewery( a football playing side  famous for earning an unexpected  mid-table spot last year) under his belt, Tsegaye has  the unsavoury task of leading  Ethiopian Coffee back to the title race in the new season. Former Coffee coach, Wubetu Abate, is now with Commercial Banks and proved his worth by leading his side to the City Cup runner-up spot. The team has become famous for performing   second-half miracles to recover from difficult situations while the opposite side starts flagging in this period of the game. Samson Ayele, the former assistant to Tsegaye, is now in Harar Brewery’s hot seat. Ashenafi Bekele, formerly with Banks, Defence Force and Dire Dawa Town, is now head honcho at Sidama Coffee.
