A total of 21 players have been called to the second team of the Ethiopian national side to take part in the 36th CECAFA Championship. The National side first team assistant coach, Seyoum Kebede, has been appointed as the head coach of the shadow team. Two players each from eight clubs, one player each from three teams and two foreign-based Ethiopian players, including Fikru Tefera who plays his football in Vietnam, have been selected for the team that will be heading to Uganda, the host nation. St.George, Electric, Hawassa Town, Ethiopian Coffee, Sidama Coffee, Arba Minch Town, Dedebit and Commercial Bank have each contributed two players, while the Defence Force, Harar Brewery and Sebeta Town have each supplied one player to the second team. The only National League player that joins the selection is Sebeta Town’s goalkeeper, Dereje Alemu. The selection comprises of three goalkeepers, five defenders and eight midfielders, including the newly discovered talent from Gambella, Gatop Panom of Ethiopian Coffee, former St. George youth team player, Elias Mamo, from Banks and Abdulkarim Mohammed of Electric with an attacking line-up consisting of five players, including Electric’s Yonatan Kebede, the first player to score a hat trick in the new season. Vietnam-based Fikru Tefera and Abraham Girmay, who plays for a university in America, are among the strike force for the Walia’s shadow national team.
