A delegation comprised of the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, Ethiopian Airlines and the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing paid a working visit to the Republic of Singapore from 2-4 December, 2012.   The delegation exchanged views with high-level officials in Ministries of Trade and Industry, Transport, Foreign Affairs, the Changi Airport Group, Changi Airport International, the Civil Aviation Authority and the aviation Academy of Singapore.  Both sides expressed a firm desire to further strengthen and enhance relations between the two countries and exchanged ideas on establishing an Ethio-Singapore Special Economic zone, cooperation in the field of multimodal logistics, a bilateral visa waiver agreement for diplomatic and service passports and cooperation in human resource development and capacity building, particularly in civil aviation, and in technical and vocational training.  Ethiopian Airlines, the Changi Airport group and other competent departments of Singapore are negotiating to establish a direct route between Addis Ababa and Singapore. Seyoum Mesfin, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China, noted that the cooperation in aviation blazes a trail and opens a window of opportunity for both sides to look into all sectors and avenues of partnership and to a win-win situation. Singapore’s economic success is an inspiration to all African nations. Ethiopia has a keen interest to learn from this success story. Singapore’s renewed interest to work closely with African countries is well noted and appreciated. A joint government-business delegation had visited Ethiopia in September this year to assess the country’s business environment. The delegation returned with a positive impression and a genuine desire to establish business relations with Ethiopia.
