Piano and voice, a musical recital by Helena Marinho and José d’Eça was held at the Yared School of Music on Thursday, 13th 2012.
Organized by Embassy of Portugal and part of the Festival Claude Debussy that started in October, the musical recital was powered by José d’Eça who is a baritone singer. Baritone is a type of male singing voice that lies between the bass and tenor voices. It is the most common male voice.
José d’Eça Born in 1994, began music lessons with his mother, Graça de Almeida de Eça, and studied singing with his father, Professor Oliveira Lopes. The artist was soloist in several performances of works such as Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” de Menotti, Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music”, and Karl Jenkins’ “Eloise”. His recitals have been successful and in 2010 he was awarded the leading prize in singing competition called “Saint Cecilia”.
His recitals have been very successful, and he has been invited to sing in Portugal in cities such as Cascais, Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and Algarve. He has also performed in Barcelona, Spain in 2010 and 2012. He will be presenting recitals in France and Brazil in 2013.
José d’Eça was not the only star on the evening of Thursday, 13th of December. His splendid voice was accompanied by the mesmerizing sounds of a piano played by the well-known Helena Marinho.
Helena, who is also a Portuguese, plays both the modern and the fortepiano has recorded CDs in both instruments and has performed in most prestigious festivals and concerts in different countries such as the U.S, Singapore, England and Sweden.
The artist studied with Sequeira Costa who is a famous pianist at the University of Kansas, where she was awarded a Master of Music degree as Fulbright scholar. She teaches presently at the Department of Communication of Arts of the University of Aveiro, where she is the Director of the Master’s program.
Both performers came together at the Yared School of Music auditorium and put on a show that was truly entertaining and applauded by everyone.
