The Mojo Dry Port Service under the auspices of the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Enterprise (ESLE), has facilitated the entry of 70 percent of the of items imported by the nation since 2001 EC and is undertaking expansion projects at a cost of 710 million birr. Mojo Branch Director, Getaneh Abat, told ENA that the ongoing expansion projects would be in three phases to enhance the port’s services to a higher level. The Director said the construction of an international standard containers’ terminal is underway on 8.6 hectares of land. He said six of the projects were under contract to the Federal Water Works Construction Enterprise and are well underway. The projects carried out in the second phase include the digging of two deep water wells, the construction of a containers’ terminal, stores, alleys,  a heavy truck terminal and gas stations, among others. Upon completion of the projects in the current Ethiopian fiscal year, the Port would accommodate 9, 500 containers, which was limited to 6,300, previously. The Port is open 14 hours a day with 275 permanent and contractual workers.
