Nation secures 1 bln USD from exports: Ministry

Ethiopia has secured one billion US dollars from foreign exports over the past five months, the Ministry of Trade said. Ministry publication and communication head, Amakele Yimam, told ENA that gold and coffee have provided for the lion’s share of the earnings. He said the revenue obtained in the referred period has surpassed the revenue gained during the same period last year by 108.6 million US dollars. Amakele said khat, oil seeds, cereals, live animals and flowers have also contributed a big share for the increased revenue. Some 140 million US dollars has been secured from the export of leather and leather products, textile and garment, meat, vegetables and fruits, and spices. The Ministry has planned to generate 5 billion US dollars from foreign trade in the current Ethiopian budget year.
