Over 229.4 million quintals of harvest is expected from the 2012 agricultural yield in Ethiopia the Central Statistics Agency (CSA) announced on Monday. The amount expected to be harvested from the season has increased by 10.5 million quintals compared to that of last year. In a press briefing on the season’s harvest forecast report the CSA Director General Samia Zekaria said 12.4 million hectares of land was utilized for agricultural production in the year 2012. The forecast shows increase of major staple crops. The steady progress on the use of agricultural inputs by farmers is the major reason for the increase of the produce, she said. According to the Director General, the forecast of 2012 does not include late and ‘belg’ harvests.
