Julphar to open pharmaceutical plant in Addis Ababa

Julphar Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries will be officially opening its newest pharmaceutical manufacturing facility around Gerji commonly known as Jackros in February.

The facility that is built on a 40,000 square foot area is going to produce solid and liquid dosage forms of medicines.
Julphar Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries is a company based in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the new manufacturing facility to be opened in Addis Ababa is stated to have the capacity to produce 150 million bottles of suspension and syrup, 500 million tablets per year and 170 million capsules annually.
The plant which is the first manufacturing facility outside of the UAE for Julphar contains production of packaging areas, warehouses as well as offices.
“The facility is nearing completion, all the machineries that are needed are in place and ready to go. The types of medicines the facility will be manufacturing have not been finalized yet. The production on the varieties of medicine will depend on the need and demand of the country,” Kelly Daniell, Communications Manager at Julphar Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries told Capital.
A high level delegation from the UAE including members of the royal family such as Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi who is the Chairman of Julphar, the Ambassador of UAE to Ethiopia as well as other high Ethiopian government officials will attend the official inaugural ceremony that is expected to be held next month.
It was also stated that Julphar has been working closely with international regulatory bodies to gain WHO Approval, ISO Accreditation and CGMP compliance. Kelly said that around 150 local employees will be recruited for the initial phase of launching the facility.
“We will be bringing skilled workers from abroad but we are also committed to investing in training locals as well,” Kelly added.
The company had a team of engineers and production managers come out to Addis Ababa this week to finalize and to make sure that everything is going according to plan. The manufacturing company has been providing medicine for Ethiopia for the last 8 years.
Julphar Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries is a company that was established in 1980 and has 211 brands manufactured in 11 facilities in the UAE.
