Germany has made available an additional 41.5 million euros in 2012, for food security, drought resilience and participatory forest management in Ethiopia, the Embassy announced. According to a press release by the embassy, in addition, one million euros for humanitarian aid has been provided in the area of food assistance to Somali, Eritrean and Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia. The release said the agreed priority sectors of Ethio-German cooperation are education (TVET and Higher Education) as well as the sustainable land Management Program. “I would like to commend the government of Ethiopia for its impressive development achievements over the last years. Thus, Ethiopia has become one of the few African Minimum Development Goals (MDG) performers,” the statement quoted Ambassador Lieselore Cyrus as saying, on the occasion of the additional funding the German government provided to Ethiopia. Ahmed Shide State Minister of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) on his part  reiterated that the development cooperation between Ethiopia and Germany is firm and dates back to many years, according to the statement. The priorities of the Ethiopian government converge with the sound experience and extremely professional support Germany provides in the fields of food security, education and capacity building, he said. Ethiopia and Germany have been cooperating for over 40 years.
