State supplies 700 kg of gold


The Gambella Regional state supplied 700 Kg of gold to the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) during the last six months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year, the state’s mines agency announced. The agency said that over USD 36 million was obtained from the sale of the gold mined by traditional miners. The amount surpassed the sum obtained for the same period last year by USD 6 million. It stated that over 90 percent of the stated amount of gold came from Dima woreda while the remaining was acquired from Abobo, the town of Gambella and its surroundings as well as from Mengesh Woreda. Activities are also underway to supply 1500 kg of gold to the bank over the next six months, the agency said.
