Ethiopian Coffee and Mugher reach last eight


Ethiopian Coffee reached the 2013 Ethiopian knockout quarter final stage after a narrow victory over premier league leader Hawassa Town while Mugher Cement went through the next stage at the expense of Electric FC. Saint George and Dedebit FC will also join the train at the quarter final stage.
Even though Coffee was missing its two most important players; goal keeper Jemal Tassew and Dawit Estifanos, the team still managed to win over Commercial Banks with an emphatic 4-1 victory in the first stage. With the match in balance for most of the ninety minutes, Coffee managed to come out as the winner through Sisay Demisse and managed to book a place among the last eight. Hawassa Town also came out victorious with a 2-1 win over Asrat Haile’s Insurance FC. In the mean time Electric that struggled a 2-1 win over premier league bottom of the table Water Sport was crushed out of the next stage after a penalty shootout by  Mugher Cement led to their defeat. The Power House without its skipper Asrat Megersa and under Bulgarian head coach Yordan, threw away its lead four minutes before the final whistle when it lost 4-2 in the shootout.
Defense Force sailed right through to the next stage avoiding the long journey back to Addis Ababa when its   opposing team Arbaminch Town forfeited the game. Under head coach Ashenafi Bekele, Sidama Coffee also managed a 1-0 win over Harar Brewery getting its ticket to the last eight.
In the last eight encounters, Saint George will play Sidama Coffee with the winner to face Ethiopian Coffee.  The winner between Dedebit and Defense Force will play against Mugher Cement in the semi final clashes.
