A panel discussion entitled “The e-professional: embracing learning technologies” was organised by the British Council and ACCA on February 15th at the Hilton Hotel.
The discussion that attractedexperts from the higher education sector, finance and other industry professionals, aimed at inspiring a dialogue on how online approaches to learning, assessment and working are affecting professional development in general especially the finance sector.
The panel discussion explained to what extent technology is changing how people do things in their personal as well as professional lives. The discussion threw a light on different learning technologies and highlighted the role of e-learning in developing skills and competencies that are required by today’s professional.
The panellist underscored the need to develop self management and inquire deep in to existing field of knowledge as a key to succeed in e-learning.
The panel discussion came in the wake of the British Council’s certification by ACCA as the first Computer Based Exam (CBE) Centre in Ethiopia to administer ACCA exams. 
ACCA’s foundation has been using online technologies to assess some certificate courses for a number of years. It was stated at the event that the collaboration between ACCA and the British Council lets ACCA students in Ethiopia to have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of sitting for CBE.
It was also stated that other non-ACCA professionals who are interested in taking certificate courses such as International Financial Reporting or International Auditing will also be able to take these courses and be assessed online.
A separate session was also organized at the British Council on February 16, 2013 to present information on the meaning, features and benefits of CBE. The event was accompanied by demonstration for students who were also given the opportunity to sit on a mock CBE after the information session.
