Dedebit FC took over the Ethiopian Premier League top spot after an away victory over home side Hawassa Town. Ethiopian Coffee claimed fourth place with a convincing 2-0 win over Electric, while defending champions St. George, settled for a successive draw.
With Dawit Fekadu and Minyahel Teshome on target, Dedebit returned home with all three points to shove Hawassa away from the top spot. With its first home defeat of the season, Hawassa currently sits second in the table with 22 points, two points behind the latest leaders, Dedebit. Ethiopian Coffee shot up to third spot after a 2-0 victory over Electric. Taking full control of the midfield, Coffee dictated the game for most part of the game. Then two goals were scored by Dawit Estifanos and Gezahegn Ashamo, giving Ethiopian Coffee a deserved three points, to place third.
Dawit Hailu and Diriba Chala’s two first-half goals helped Defence Force achieve a 2-0 victory over Sidama Coffee.The Army side stays seventh in the table with 15 points. Berhane G/Egziabher’s unfruitful short passes led to Water Sport’s 3-2 defeat to Commercial Bank.
With three goals in three minutes from Binyam, Elias and Abiy, Bank got away with a victory, while Water Sport missed the chance to win its first-ever match in the season, and stayed at the bottom of the table with a single point.
Saint George settled for a goalless draw with Insurance FC, a side that could have won the match, if it had went for it. Harar Brewery lost the chance for a home win after it had a goalless draw with visitors Adama Town. St. George sits third with 20 points, with arch rivals Coffee fourth, with 19 points.
According to the Ethiopian Football Federation’s (EFF) latest announcement, the league season is suspended for the second time this year because of the National team’s World Cup qualification encounter against visitors Botswana. This time it will be suspended for three weeks. At World Cup qualifications, Ethiopia tops the group table with four points from two matches, while Central Africa is second, with three points. South Africa is in third place with two points and Botswana sits at the bottom of the table with a single point. The match against visitors Botswana will take place on the 24th of March 2013.
