The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) said it is committed to support the ICT consumption in schools to ensure greater integration of ICT within the teaching and learning activities in schools.
The remark came at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed Monday 6th of March among MoCIT, Information Communication Technology Association Ethiopia (ICTET), Tecno and ten high schools in Addis Ababa. The agreement enables computer laboratories in the ten high schools to receive grant to cover the cost of providing internet access for one year, it was indicated.
According to the agreement, Google provides 5000 dollars to cover the cost of providing internet access to 10 schools while ICTET provides technical advice to the schools and facilitates the resource transfer from Google to the schools.
MoCIT facilitate training for the representatives from the beneficiary schools while Tecno offers 6,000 to cover the cost of training one person from each school.
“This is an opportunity and a good initiative for all parties to enhance the ICT consumption in Ethiopian schools and to improve access to internet infrastructure in secondary education institutions,” Peter Gatkot, State Minister of MoCIT, said on the occasion.
According to Peter, the government of Ethiopia has made the development of information communication technology (ICT) as one of its strategic priorities.
